Feeling Stressed? Try This Acupressure Point: Yintang

Feeling stressed, anxious, or having trouble winding down? There’s a simple acupressure point you can try at home.

Yintang, sometimes called the “third eye” point, is located between the eyebrows, just above the bridge of the nose. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yintang is commonly used to promote a sense of calm and relaxation.

In our practice, some patients have even come to know it as the “happy point.”

How to Find Yintang

Finding Yintang is easy. Place your finger in the space directly between your eyebrows.

Once you’ve found the spot, try one of these techniques:

  • Apply gentle pressure with your fingertip.

  • Massage the area slowly in a circular motion.

  • Hold steady, comfortable pressure for a few moments.

  • For slightly broader pressure, gently use your knuckle.

There’s no need to press hard. The goal is to create a comfortable, relaxing sensation.

Why Do We Use Yintang?

Acupuncturists commonly use Yintang as part of treatments designed to encourage relaxation and support overall well-being.

It may be incorporated into acupuncture treatments when patients are experiencing stress, restlessness, difficulty relaxing, or sleep concerns.

And you don’t have to be in the treatment room to give the point a little attention.

The next time you notice yourself feeling tense or overstimulated, close your eyes, take a few slow breaths, and gently massage Yintang. Think of it as a small moment to signal to your body that it’s time to slow down.

Acupuncture for Stress and Whole-Body Wellness

At Jang Acupuncture in Moraga, we don’t look at stress as something that exists separately from the rest of your health.

Sleep, energy, hormones, digestion, pain, and emotional well-being can all influence how you feel. Traditional Chinese Medicine allows us to look at these patterns together and develop an acupuncture treatment plan based on the individual.

Sometimes, though, supporting yourself can start with something as simple as finding the right point.
